The Jury's Out! (And they were kinda right)
For this game I was assigned to be a member of the defense. We almost all entirely agreed that it was going to be very difficult to defend them and they did deserve the charges they ended up with. However, as the good fake lawyers we were, we tried to not let this show while during the game as it progressed and the jury’s questions inevitably got harder. I think that this role did not really change my view of these characters because what they did was pretty awful. I did have the idea throughout though about how severe the consequences of breaking a blood oath would be because it was one of our key arguments. Of course this brought up a lot about how they should not have sworn it in the first place, but that was kind of neither here nor there. I think I was able to come up with a multitude of silly reasons why they should not be charged such as “they had to do it for the plot” but of course this is more than just “plot” it's the foundation of an entire universe. Finding factual, textual evidence was a little bit more difficult and I think there were not really too many reasons why we should support them without leaning on outside material, ideas, or opinions. As part of the defense I obviously have to disagree with the jury on behalf of the client, but personally I agree. I do like that they threw out some of the more random charges such as sins of pride. That is quite difficult to measure and pinpoint an exact quantification for.
